Chinese Test: Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) - The Chinese Proficiency Test or the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is an internationally-recognized test in Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers and users of the Chinese language. This is commonly known as the Chinese test and is a standardized test which leads to an international certification in Chinese and is used by individuals for professional, academic as well as personal purposes. There are six HSK levels based on the level of proficiency in Chinese. Apart from HSK, the other standardized and internationally-recognized Chinese proficiency tests which are offered as Chinese tests include the HSKK or the HSK Speaking Test, the Youth Chinese Test or YCT and the Business Chinese Test or BCT. HSK Test Registration
The HSK test registration process for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) is to be carried out online by prospective Chinese test candidates. The steps involved in the HSK test registration process are:
Candidates need to create a Chinese test login ID in order to complete HSK test registration for any of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) levels.
The candidate must choose the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) level which he or she would like to appear for as well as the Chinese test format i.e. paper-based or internet-based.
Upon Chinese test level and format selection, the candidate will be able to select the desired Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) test center as well as test date from the dates available for the given center.
Upon selection of the Chinese test specifics, the candidate will need to fill out a few required personal and other details.
The candidate must also upload a 2-inch photograph in the JPG format to the Chinese test login ID at the time of HSK test registration. The size of the photograph must not exceed 100KB.
Subsequent to HSK test registration, the candidate will need to make the fee payment for the Chinese test via either online or offline payment methods according to the payment requirement at the specific Chinese test center.
Candidates who have completed the HSK test registration can download various resources using the Chinese test login ID including HSK test sample papers and questions.
After successful HSK test registration, the candidate will receive an HSK test registration confirmation email within 10 days at his or her registered email address. In case the the candidate does not receive the confirmation, then he or she should contact the respective test center.
The candidate can collect the admit card for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) from the test center or print it through his or her Chinese test login ID. The candidate must carry the admit card on the day of the Chinese test along with requisite stationery.

HSK Test Dates
The Chinese Proficiency Test or HSK test dates are released throughout the year for prospective students who want to appear for the Chinese tests. The dates for 2019 have been announced and are common for all the HSK test centers around the world. These dates are also dependent upon test center availability and therefore are announced 8-10 times in a year for specific test centers on a rolling basis and therefore, candidates can only select their preferred date according to the availability for the nearest or preferred test center.

Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Levels
There are a total of six different levels for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) which range from HSK 1 to HSK 6. These six proficiency levels correspond to the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or CEFR. HSK 1 is the most basic level of language proficiency for the Chinese tests and HSK 6 is the highest level of Chinese test proficiency which is equivalent to the language proficiency of a near-native speaker.
The HSK 1 test attests a candidate’s basic proficiency in everyday Chinese and this chinese test is equivalent to the A1 level on the CEFR scale. It is understood that candidate who pass the HSK 1 test are able to meet the basic requirements for communication in Chinese.

HSK Test Result
The test results for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) are provided to the student approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the date of the Chinese test. These results report the section-wise scores, the maximum score (in each section and overall) as well as the candidate’s total score. The candidate must obtain a score above the passing score in order to clear the concerned Chinese test and earn the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) certificate for the specific HSK level. The score requirement varies for different levels of the Chinese test.
For HSK 1-2

Candidates are required to obtain at least a total score of 180 in order to successfully clear the Chinese test and subsequently earn the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) certificate.
Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Validity
The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) certificates are essentially valid for an indefinite amount of time and have no definitive expiration date. Despite this, if an individual intends to use the Chinese test certificate for professional or academic purposes such as pursuing a program at a Chinese university or a job in a Chinese firm or company, then employers and evaluators often prefer that the language Chinese test certification is recent and not more than 2 years old. Therefore, in the professional and academic context, the Chinese test certificate can be considered to have a validity of two years.
