BHU PET Eligibility Criteria 2019 – Banaras Hindu University has released the BHU PET 2019 eligibility criteria along with official notification on February 10, 2019. The eligibility criteria of BHU PET 2019 has been released for M.A., M.Sc., M.Com. courses offered by the university. BHU PET eligibility criteria 2019 states requirements related to educational qualifications and minimum qualifying marks which a BHU PET candidate must fulfil to be able to appear for BHU PET 2019. Candidates are required to thoroughly go through the below mentioned BHU PET 2019 eligibility criteria for the programme of their own choice and category before filling the application form. If a candidate does not fulfil the eligibility criteria of BHU PET 2019, his/ her admissions will be cancelled even at later stages of admissions. BHU PET is conducted for candidates who wish to seek admissions into the postgraduate programmes offered by the university. The online application form has to be filled by the candidates between February 10, 2019 to March 9, 2019. BHU PET 2019 will be conducted from May 12 to 21, 2019 in two sessions. BHU PET 2019 Eligibility Criteria – Faculty of Arts
Candidates who wish to take admissions to subjects offered by the Faculty of Arts of the university like English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Arabic, German, French, Nepali, Persian, Telugu, Pali, Linguistic, History of Art, I.P.R, and Philosophy need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria.
For any of the subjects in Faculty of Arts, candidates must have studied B.A. (hons.)/ B.A. under 10 + 2+3 pattern.
As per eligibility criteria of BHU PET 2019, candidates (general category) must have also secured a minimum aggregate of 50% excluding those subjects which require only passing marks and are not included in the final marksheet.
For each course the candidate seeks admissions into, he/ she should have compulsorily studied a certain subject/ subjects in the qualifying examination. Candidates can go through the below mentioned table which specifies those compulsory subjects for each course.

M.A. in Arabic/ French/ German/ Marathi/ Persian/ Telugu/ Bengali/ English/ Hindi/ Urdu/ Sanskrit/ AIHC & Arch./ Philosophy/ Geography/ Statistics/ Mathematics/ Home Science
M.A. in Linguistics
M.A in Nepali
Candidates who have done their B.A. (hons.)/ B.A. from 10 + 2 + 3 pattern/ Shastri (B-level Nepali) with a 1 year bridge course/ PG diploma/ advanced diploma in Nepali and have scored 50% marks both at graduation and diploma levels will be eligible for the course.
M.A. in Indian Philosophy and Religion (IPR)
Candidate must have studied philosophy/ religious Studies as an hons. subject or as a subject in all the three years of graduation.
Candidate who pursued his/ her graduation from a national/ foreign university recognized by BHU with a postgraduate diploma in Indian Philosophy and Religion and scored at least an aggregate of 50% at both graduation and postgraduation level.
M.A. in History of Art
Candidates must have studied History of Art/Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology/ Ancient History, Culture & Archaeology/Archaeology and Ancient History/ Ancient Indian History & Culture/Ancient Indian History & Archaeology/Drawing and Painting/Painting as an hons. subject at the B.A. or as a subject in all the three years at graduation level.
He/ she must have studied BVA/BFA (Visual Arts).
M.A. in Pali
Candidates must have studied Pali/ Buddhist Studies as an hons. Subject or a subject in all the three years at graduation level.
BHU PET 2019 Eligibility Criteria – Faculty of Social Sciences
Candidates who seek admissions into courses offered by Faculty of Social Sciences of the university like M.A. in History/ Political Science/ Economics/ Sociology/ Psychology will have to fulfil the eligibility criteria of BHU PET 2019 mentioned below.
Candidates must have studied B.A/ B.Sc./ B.A. (hons.)/ B.Sc. (hons.) under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern.
They must have scored at least an aggregate of 50% at graduation level except for the subjects which need only pass marks and do not add to scores given in the final marksheet.
As per the eligibility criteria of BHU PET 2019 regarding Faculty of Social Sciences, candidates who have studied B.A.(hons.) in Ancient History/ B.A. with Ancient History as a subject is not eligible for admissions into M.A. History.
A candidate having passed B.Sc. (Hons.) Psychology/ B.Sc. with Psychology as hons. subject or a subject studied in all the three years at B.Sc. level is eligible for admission in M.Sc. in Psychology
Candidates who have pursued B.Sc. (hons.) Psychology/ B.Sc. with Psychology as a subject in all the three years of graduation is eligible to apply for M.Sc. in psychology.
BHU PET Eligibility Criteria 2019 – Faculty of Commerce
Candidates who wish to apply for M.Com. programme offered by Faculty of Commerce of the university need to fulfil the following criteria.
Candidates having a degree in B.Com/ B.Com. (hons.)/ B.Com. (hons.) Financial Markets Management under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern.
They should have secured an aggregate of 50% excluding those subjects which do not add to the score on final marksheet and require only pass marks.
BHU PET 2019 Eligibility Criteria – Institute of Science
Candidates who wish to take admissions into M.Sc. courses offered by Institute of Science of the university like Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Computer Sciences, Biochemistry, Geology, Geophysics need to fulfil the eligibility criteria given below.
Candidates should have studied B.Sc. (Hons.)/ B.Sc. Under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern.
As per the eligibility criteria of BHU PET 2019, they should have secured a minimum aggregate of 50% in all science subjects studied at B.Sc. Level.
Additionally, for each course under M.Sc., a candidate must have also studied compulsory subject(s) in the qualifying examination. To know such compulsory subjects for each course, refer to the table below.

BHU PET 2019 Eligibility Criteria 2019 – Relaxations
Candidates can refer to the following relaxations in the eligibility criteria of BHU PET 2019 available to some categories.
There is no requirement for SC/ ST candidates to score any minimum percentage in the qualifying exams. They are only required to have passed the qualifying exams and appeared for BHU PET 2019.
For OBC candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% in the minimum aggregate to be secured in qualifying exams.
BHU PET Eligibility Criteria 2019 – Additional Points
Candidates still in the final year of qualifying exam will be allowed to apply for BHU PET 2019. But such candidates will be asked to produce original marksheet of qualifying exam fulfilling the eligibility requirements on the day of BHU PET 2019 provisional admission and counselling. On failing to do so, he/she will be granted conditional admission to the programme applied for only if:
He/she signs an undertaking that he/ she will be able to produce original marksheet fulfilling the eligibility criteria by 31 October 2019.
It is evident from the candidate’s marksheets of previous examinations related to courses covered in qualifying exams that the candidate has secured at least 50% in such exams. (This will not be necessary for the SC/ST categories).
If candidates admitted conditionally fail to produce the marksheet by the deadline, their admission to the university will be cancelled without any fee refund.
If the qualifying exam marksheet of the candidate does not show the equivalent percentage of grade points, candidates will be required to get a Certificate of conversion from their institution mentioning the converted percentage/ formula of conversion from grade points to numerical.
If in case a candidate’s grade sheet shows the converted percentage or the formula of conversion, he/ she will have to furnish photocopies of both the sides of grade or degree sheet which specifies the equivalent percentage/ conversion formula.
The university will also take account of grace marks awarded to the candidate in the qualifying exam aggregate percentage. The final marksheet will act as the sole basis to calculate the aggregate marks. However, in a case where final marksheets are of more than one type, the total marks obtained in all the subjects studied in three years will be taken to calculate the aggregate. Marks scored by the candidate in subsidiary subjects will also be considered while calculating the aggregate percentage even when the final marksheet is based only on hons subject. In case of any confusion related to computation of aggregate, only the decision taken by the university will be binding.
Only the Association of Indian Universities recognized degrees and certificates will be considered equivalent degrees/ certificates.
The Distance Education Council of IGNOU will decide the credibility of distance education degrees/ certificates. Candidates studying through distance education will be permitted to appear for the exams provisionally but they will be required to submit certificates approved by Distance Education Council of IGNOU.
The 10+2 courses of Madrasas approved by Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, will be accepted by BHU.
Candidates can apply for multiple programmes, provided he is eligible for each of them, and the entrance tests are on different dates.
Candidates admitted into the university are not allowed to pursue any other course alongside from BHU/ other universities.
